FPU Win Streak at Four after Tight Battle with HPU

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team picked up a PacWest Conference victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Hawai'i Pacific 2-1 at Ramirez Field. The Sunbirds now have a four-game winning streak, marking their longest of the season.    
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Fresno Pacific 2, Hawai'i Pacific 1
Records: FPU (7-9-1, 7-3-0 PacWest), HPU (5-6-6, 3-3-4 PacWest)
All-Time Series: FPU leads 4-1-2
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sharks drew first blood, but the Sunbirds found the equalizer to head to the half with a 1-1 score.   
• FPU reshuffled personnel during the intermission and came out firing to start the second half.
• The eventual game-winner came in the game's 62nd minute, and the Sunbirds limited HPU's opportunity for the duration of the match.  
 
SCORING: 
• (13:45) Ebony Madrid found Brittny Ihara in a crowded box, with Ihara following with a shot to the left of the FPU keeper.  
• (35:08) Rachel Anderson teamed up with Nalani Wall, who answered with her first career score.
• (61:17) Whitney Snow connected with Alexis Macias in the box, and Macias shook her defender to put the 'Birds in front for good. 
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Fresno Pacific outshot their guests 18-7, including an 8-5 mark in shots on frame.  
Alex Benevidez gave the Sunbirds four saves between the posts, while HPU's Lauren Spencer racked up six in the loss.    
• Each team took one corner kick.   
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Benevidez has been between the posts for each of FPU's wins this fall.
• With a win in Saturday's season finale, FPU will finish in second place in the conference for the second consecutive season.
