FPU Extends Win Streak to Three with Defeat of Penguins

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team picked up a PacWest Conference victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Dominican 2-1 in the season's final road game. The Sunbirds have now won three straight and remain a top three team in the league standings.  
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: FPU 2, Dominican 1 
Records: FPU (6-9-1, 6-3-0 PacWest), Dominican (6-7-2, 3-4-1 PacWest)
All-Time Series: FPU leads 11-2-3
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds started the scoring with a 35th-minute goal, carrying a 1-0 lead into the intermission.  
• A second goal 15 minutes into the second half provided the Blue and Orange with some cushion.  
• Dominican broke through with 12 minutes to play, but FPU keeper Alex Benevidez made a pair of impressive saves to help the 'Birds spoil Senior Day in San Rafael.
 
SCORING: 
• (34:57) Jessica Dondlinger's cross from the right flank led Tori De Leon perfectly, and De Leon responded with a header for the early lead.
• (60:28) Nalani Wall found Mackenzie Reynolds inside the box, allowing Reynolds to take the team lead in scores.  
• (78:37) Alyssa Campbell's corner kick went off the head of Michelle Li and into the back of the net for Dominican's lone score.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Dominican outshot their guests 14-13, including a narrow 6-5 mark in shots on frame.   
• Alyssa Ramos tallied three saves for the Penguins, while Benevidez racked up four en route to her sixth win.   
• The Penguins took five of the game's eight corner kicks. 
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Benevidez has been between the posts for each of FPU's wins this fall.
• Reynolds is now tied for last season's team-high in goals with two games remaining.
