FPU Men’s Soccer Falls to Concordia in Road Battle

IRVINE, Calif.  – The Fresno Pacific men's soccer stumbled on Saturday evening, falling 4-1 on the road to Concordia in PacWest Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Eagles got on the scoreboard first with a free kick near the top of the box.
• Four minutes into the second half, Concordia padded the lead to move in front 2-0.
• The final goal of the match came with 18 minutes remaining, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
• The two teams each picked up a goal in the final five minutes of the game.

SCORING:
• (28:56) A free kick by Randall McDermott found Michael Oakson, who gave the Eagles the first lead of the afternoon.  
• (49:56) After an assist from Ty O'Connor, Julian Font turned and fired to the back of the net to expand the Concordia lead.
•  (72:13) Andrew Almeida got in on the scoring, recording his first goal of the season.
• (85:29) O'Connor became the second player of the day to record a goal and an assist with a head over FPU keeper Brandon Gettman.
• (85:53) Less than 30 seconds later, Anthony Velarde recorded the only Sunbird score of the night to prevent the shutout.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• The Eagles outshot their guests 18-9, including a 9-6 mark in shots on frame.
• Each team was credited with five saves for the contest.
• Fresno Pacific took eight of the game's 15 corner kicks.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds have scored less than two goals in five of their six losses this season.
• Concordia has now won four consecutive games to open conference play, outscoring opponents 11-2 in that span.
• The Eagles remain unbeaten on their home pitch this fall, improving to 5-0.  
 
UP NEXT:
• The Sunbirds take on Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday afternoon before returning home on Saturday. Wednesday's opening whistle is slated for 2:30 pm from Belmont.
