SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's basketball team couldn't keep up with hot-shooting Dominican on Thursday night, as the Sunbirds fell to the Penguins 90-76 in the final PacWest road game of the season. FPU's
Spencer Krannitz led all scorers with 30 points in the setback.
The Sunbirds had their two-game winning streak snapped with the loss and fall to 6-20 overall and 6-13 in league action. Dominican stays in the hunt for the PacWest tournament with the win and improves to 10-15 overall and 9-10 in conference.
FPU came out hot early behind Krannitz and led 15-6 behind after back-to-back threes from the senior. The Sunbirds trailed 44-43 at the intermission, however, despite 20 points from Krannitz.
Dominican took control of the game in the second half behind a 17-0 run three minutes into the period. The Sunbirds cut the lead to single digits to nine points on two different times, but wouldn't come any closer before the final horn blew.
Krannitz finished the night 11-of-20 from the field for his third 30-point effort of the season for the Sunbirds. He added five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Sam Burt added 15 points (7-of-8),
Mike Crawley totaled 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, and
T.J. Viney scored 11 points and dished out four assists.
FPU finished 45 percent from the field, but Dominican countered at 56 percent. The Penguins out-rebounded the Sunbirds 44-26 and totaled 21 second-chance points and 54 points in the paint.
Jeremiah Gray led the way for DUC with 28 points on 11-of-22 shooting, while Josh Ramirez added 22 points and nine rebounds.
The Sunbirds will host Notre Dame de Namur in their final game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m. It marks Senior Day for
