Sunbirds End Season with Highest Finish in Program History

WAIPAHU, Hawaii  – The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday, playing to a 1-1 tie against Hawai'i Pacific. The Sunbirds end the 2017 campaign one point behind California Baptist in the PacWest Conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The two teams went back and forth for the first 45 minutes, and neither team found the back of the net in the first half.
• Fresno Pacific struck first with a goal in the game's 53rd minute, but the Sharks got it back with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.
• The Sunbirds had a handful of scoring opportunities in overtime, but defense prevailed over the final 20 minutes.  

STATS OF THE GAME:
• The Sharks outshot the Sunbirds 22-20, but FPU claimed a 10-8 mark in shots on frame.
• Hawai'i Pacific earned three of the game's five corner kicks.
• FPU's Summer Hammond tallied six saves in the net, while Shark counterpart Alannah John recorded nine.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds have finished with nine wins in each of the last three seasons, but this year's second-place finish is the highest in program history.
• Hammond ends her career with ten shutouts, tied for second on FPU's all-time list.
 
UP NEXT:
• Fresno Pacific graduates six seniors, while 11 players who have started at least one game this season return for next year.
