Sunbirds Close out Julian Fraser Memorial Tourney

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Fresno Pacific wrapped up play at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament on Sunday with two games. The Sunbirds played well in the opener but fell just short to #19 Brown, 9-8, before dropping the finale to Wagner, 16-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds were firing on all cylinders in the early going against Brown and jumped out to a 7-2 lead.
• Brown answered back, however, and used a 6-0 run to take its first leads of the game with 2:11 to play. The 'Birds tied the game at eight apiece with a minute left, but Brown answered 10 seconds later with the game-winner.
 
• In the nightcap, the Sunbirds fell behind 8-2 at halftime against Wagner. FPU managed four goals in the final period, but it was too little too late.
 
STATS OF THE GAMES:
• Garrett Pickford led the Sunbirds with two goals in the setback to Brown.
• Kyle Eoff, Garth Verdegaal, Richard Szepesi, Lazar Raca, Erik Brown and Paul Siebenaler also found the back of the cage with one goal apiece for the 'Birds.
• Joshua Ramage totaled 18 saves in the cage for FPU.
 
• In game two, Eoff led FPU with two goals.
• Siebenaler, Uros Pelemis, Szepesi, Verdegaal and George Dimitroulis rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece for the Sunbirds.
• In goal, Ramage totaled eight saves for the Sunbirds' defensively.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds have now faced 11 ranked opponents in 2017.
• Ramage's 18 saves marked his third-highest total for a single game this season. It was also his seventh double-digit effort of the year.
 
UP NEXT:
• FPU heads back into Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) play on Saturday, Oct. 28 against #9 UC Davis. The game is slated for a noon start in Davis.
