Winning Streak Snapped by Point Loma

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific had its four-game winning streak snapped by Point Loma on Saturday, as the Sunbirds fell 3-1 in PacWest play. Set scores were 25-20, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-19 in favor of the Sea Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Point Loma won the opening set behind an 8-2 run in the middle of the frame.
• FPU looked in control of the second set with the score 15-10, but the Sea Lions came out firing after a timeout with a 9-1 stretch to take control and eventually earn the set victory.
• The Sunbirds best frame came in the third, which featured a .211 hitting attack from FPU. The 'birds used a balanced attack in the frame, which was finished off by a kill from Malerie Crenshaw.
• FPU then faltered in the fourth set and was held to .053 hitting, while the Sea Lions countered at .257 to eliminate any thought of a Sunbird comeback.
 
STATS OF THE GAME:
• Karah Mitchell and Malerie Crenshaw each put down 12 kills apiece for the Sunbirds. Mitchell added 17 digs to record a double-double.
• Gabriela Macedo and Kylei Dewar also added nine kills apiece, while Caroline Bodziak finished with eight.
• Greta Dobenecker dished out 34 assists and totaled 11 digs, while Tiff Wong chipped in with 20 digs.
• Point Loma received 17 kills from Julia Malinas and a game-high 47 assists from Cara Keturakis.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds had a season-best four-game winning streak snapped, but have still won six of their last eight games.
• Mitchell and Dobenecker both amassed double-doubles for the second consecutive game.
• The 34 assists from Dobenecker marked a career high, which bested her mark of 31.
• The Sunbirds honored the local first responders before the match.

• Fresno Pacific continues its seven-game homestand on Thursday, Oct. 19 against Notre Dame de Namur at 6 p.m.
