6th-Ranked Lancers Break Through Late for 2-0 Victory over FPU Men

FRESNO, Calif.  – The Fresno Pacific men's soccer team was tripped up on Saturday night, falling 2-0 against California Baptist at Ramirez Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The two teams went back and forth in the first half, but defense prevailed as the teams went into the intermission with a 0-0 tie.
• CBU found the back of the net twice in the final four minutes of the game, helping them win their 10th straight to open the season.    

SCORING:
• (86:31) NCAA leading scorer Aidan Apodaca beat his defender and won a one-on-one against the FPU keeper for his 20th goal of the season.
• (87:21) Lancer teammate Hugo Gutierrez stole the ball and found Apodaca in the box 50 seconds later, paving the way for Apodaca to extend his national lead in goals.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• CBU outshot their hosts 13-11, but both team put four attempts on target.
• Fresno Pacific earned eight of the game's 11 corner kicks.
• Sunbird goalkeeper recorded a pair of saves between the pipes, while CBU counterpart Edgar Benitez needed four to preserve the shutout.  

BEYOND THE BOX:
• Apodaca is the single-season leader in goals at CBU, and Saturday was his fifth multi-goal performance of the season.
• The four teams (CSUMB, CSUDH, PLNU, CBU) that have shut out the Sunbirds this fall are a combined 30-15-5 to this point in the season.  
 
UP NEXT:
• Fresno Pacific returns to action on Thursday, when they host Academy of Art in another PacWest showdown. Opening whistle from Ramirez Field is slated for 7:30 p.m.
