ABOUT FRESNO PACIFIC (1-0-1)
FPU is coming off a 3-2 overtime win against Cal State Monterey Bay on September 3, when freshman Gabriel Batista came away with his first career goal in the 92nd minute to give FPU its first win of the 2016 season.

Five different Sunbirds (Asencio, J. Segura, Chedraui, Belzil, Batista) have scored a goal so far this season through just two games. The fifth different scorer of last season came in the Birds' sixth game of the year, a 3-2 home win over Westmont.

The Blue and Orange were ranked 22nd in the NSCAA Preseason Poll (August 2) but managed to jump eight spots in the most recent edition (September 6).

The Sunbirds are set to host their annual Alumni and Legends Games on Saturday, September 17 at Ramirez Field. For more information, please contact Jessi Wallace at jessi.wallace@fresno.edu or 559-453-5694.

ABOUT CAL POLY (0-4-0)
The Mustangs have struggled to score in the early part of the season, with their lone goal comine against fifth-ranked Wake Forest on August 28. Cal Poly's first two games of the year came against opponents ranked in the top ten nationally.

Mustang head coach Steve Sampson is a former manager of the United States Men's National Team, as well as a former head coach of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy. He also became the first American-born coach to manage a National Team from another country in 2002, when he began his three-year tenure with Costa Rica.

SERIES HISTORY: FPU VS CAL POLY
Cal Poly claims a 7-3-1 advantage in the all-time series. The most recent meeting between the two teams came last season as an exhibition, when the Mustangs defeated the Sunbirds 4-0 in San Luis Obispo.

ABOUT CAL POLY POMONA (1-1-1)
Like the Mustangs, the Broncos have scored just one goal through their first three games, as Dante Medina fired the game-winner in a season-opening shutout of Montana State Billings. Despite the early offensive skid, Cal Poly Pomona continues to be an attack-minded team, outshooting their opponents 28-27 so far. Junior goalkeeper Jason Trejos has tallied nine saves and allowed just two goals through his first three games in the net.

SERIES HISTORY: FPU VS CAL POLY POMONA
The Sunbirds are 1-1-2 in the all-time series against Cal Poly Pomona, with the most recent meeting ending in a 2-2 tie last fall. Jorge Chedraui and Dallas Whitlow provided the two scores, but neither squad was able to find the back of the net in either ten-minute overtime period.

HEAD COACH JAIME RAMIREZ
In 25 seasons, Ramirez has coached the Sunbird men to a 300-150-31 record that includes a pair Pacific West Conference Championships (2013, 2015), eight Golden State Athletic Conference Championships (1991, 92, 98, 99, 2002, 03, 05, 11), four Region Championships (1999, 2003, 2007, 2012) and five NAIA National Championship Tournament appearances (1999, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009). His 300 wins are the most in FPU men's soccer history.

As a player, his career records for most goals scored (54) and most points scored (134) stood for nearly twenty years. They were finally surpassed in 1999 by striker Edgardo Contreras (61, 141). Ramirez was a four-time Fresno Pacific MVP, four-time NAIA All-District Three award winner and three-time NAIA All-America honoree. As a senior in the 1980 campaign, he led the (then) Vikings to the school's first NAIA District 3 championship.

Ramirez played one season (1982) for the Los Angeles Aztecs of the North American Soccer League, and then returned to Fresno to complete his education. He played 20 seasons in the San Joaquin Soccer League, the last seven with SC San Marcos. He helped San Marcos to the state semifinals in 1996 before retiring in 1997.

In his first season as head coach, Ramirez guided the Sunbird men to an impressive 15-2-1 record and was honored by his peers as the NAIA District 3 and All-Far West Coach of the Year. He has gone on to receive numerous coaching honors, most recently the PacWest Coach of the Year distinction in 2013.
