POMONA, Calif. – The 15th-ranked Fresno Pacific University men's soccer team stumbled on Tuesday night, falling 2-0 at the hands of 23rd-ranked Cal Poly Pomona. With the loss, the Sunbirds drop to 1-2-1 for the season, while the Broncos improved to 4-1-1 overall.
Â
"These guys are the standard in our region, and that showed today. There are subtleties of the game that they understand well. We showed our inexperience, and they certainly capitalized," head coach
Jaime Ramirez said. "Either we correct, or it's going to be a long season. This loss is disappointing, but it doesn't have to be detrimental."
Â
Bronco leading scorer Sergi Monso provided all the offense, finding the net in the 17th minute before adding another with four minutes remaining in the first half. The Broncos controlled the ball for most of the night, only allowing the Sunbirds to take five shots on frame all evening.

The Blue and Orange host their annual
Alumni Game on Saturday at 6:00 from Ramirez Field. Competitive action resumes on Sept. 22, when they host Chaminade University in the PacWest Conference opener at 5:00 p.m.
Â
"We have had relative success against them, but we are not looking past them by any means," Ramirez said. "We have a lot of work to do and a lot of time to prepare, so hopefully we can get back in the win column and start earning some points in conference play."
