Josh Medeles threw a complete game to lead Fresno Pacific past visiting San Francisco State 5-2 on Friday night. The Sunbirds (3-3) capitalized on four SFSU errors, scoring five runs on four hits and riding their ace the rest of the way.

Medeles gave up just three hits and one earned run on the night while striking out nine to earn the victory. The fifth-year senior lefty also moved into second on FPU's all-time strikeout list, passing former Sunbird Matt Mazzoni in the ninth inning when he recorded his 181st career strikeout.

Davy Vartanian finished 2-for-3 to lead the Sunbird lineup. Preston Scott and McKay France each recorded triples in the win. France and Hunter Villanueva recorded RBIs.

Ryan Bohnet pitched into the sixth for the Gators but took the loss. SFSU dropped to 2-2 on the season.

The Sunbirds got the scoring going in the first after Scott blasted a triple and come home on a Villanueva grounder that was misplayed by the third baseman. The Gators would tie it up on two occasions but FPU took the lead for good in the sixth when Vartanian led off with a single and came around to score on an RBI fielder's choice by Villanueva.

FPU added two in the seventh when a fly ball to centerfield was lost in the lights by the SFSU centerfielder and ended up going as a triple for France. The Sunbirds added another on a botched throw back to the mound by the Gator catcher.

The teams continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 11 am at FPU.
