Fresno Pacific picked up its first PacWest win of the season on Monday night, snapping an 11-game losing streak by knocking off conference foe Notre Dame de Namur 64-59. The Sunbirds (3-16, 1-12 PacWest) outscored the Argos 20-11 in the fourth quarter to close out the win.
Hannah Ramirez scored 16 points to go with seven rebounds, seven steals and four assists to lead FPU.
Megan Lee added 12 points off the bench and
Daeja Gilmer added 11 points and six rebounds.
"I'm so proud of the team today," said head coach
Lindsey Wilson. "We played hard-nosed FPU basketball for 40 minutes. When we are committed and engaged we are a tough basketball team."
The Sunbirds led by four at halftime but were outscored 19-11 in the third as NDNU headed into the fourth with 48-44 lead. A three-pointer by Ramirez tied the game with a little over seven minutes left and Ramirez followed with a layup as FPU reclaimed the lead 50-48. The teams traded baskets up until the final minute as
Jasmine Shedrick stretched the lead to five with a fastbreak layup with 37 seconds to go. NDNU responded with a three-pointer but FPU made free-throws to seal the victory.
Jerusha Paine had a game-high 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Argos (3-18, 2-11 PacWest).
FPU was out-shot 43% to 38% and out-rebounded 41-36 but the Sunbirds limited their turnovers while forcing 23 Argo turnovers.
The Sunbirds are back in action at home this Thursday, hosting Hawaii Hilo at 5:30 pm.
