Solarin’s Double-Double Powers FPU Past NDNU

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Pacific led from start-to-finish as the Sunbirds defeated Notre Dame de Namur, 80-54, on Monday night in PacWest action. Gabe Solarin delivered his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds to power the Sunbirds to their second straight win.

FPU improves to 11-9 overall and 6-7 in the PacWest with the win, while NDNU falls to 3-17 overall and 2-11 in league action.

"The best thing we did tonight was rebound the basketball," said head coach Tim Kisner. "That really allowed our offense to get out in transition. We created some open looks and made some shots. I thought our guys played hard and competed at a high level tonight."

Solarin made 7-of-12 shots and 6-of-8 from deep for his game-high 20 points. Spencer Krannitz continued his hot shooting with 19 points (7-10 FG), Madison Higgins added 15 points and six rebounds, and Oliver Herting provided 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. Suhail Mohammadi and T.J. Viney facilitated the offense with seven and five assists, respectively.

The Sunbirds led 49-26 at the break and led by as many as 30 in the second half in the route of the Argonauts. FPU used a 16-2 stretch in the middle of the first half to take control of the game.

The Sunbirds held the Argos to 32 percent from the field and 54 total points, both season lows for opponents. FPU countered at 52 percent from the floor and 52 percent from deep. A big difference in the game came on the glass, as the Sunbirds out-rebounded NDNU 49-23.

FPU is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 4 against Hawaii Hilo at home. The Vulcans defeated the Sunbirds 98-90 in Hawaii on Jan. 18.
