SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University women's soccer team ended in a tie with Dominican on Friday evening after both teams failed to score through 110 minutes. Each team earns a point in the conference standings, and the Sunbirds now claim a 5-3-1 record this season.
Â
"The unfortunate part of soccer is you can dominate and control most of the game and not get the result you want. We played and fought hard, but Dominican did a great job at keeping numbers behind the ball," head coach
Rob Podeyn said. "The tie puts us in a three-way tie for first with Azusa Pacific and Point Loma, our opponents next week."
Â
The Blue and Orange fired at Penguin keeper Alyssa Ramos early and often, taking 14 shots and nine on frame. Ramos tallied nine saves to notch her third clean sheet of the year, while FPU's
Summer Hammond needed just one save to earn her fourth shutout.
Â
Each team saw eight potential scoring opportunities from corner kicks, but Ramos and Hammond ensured their opponents would stay off the board for all 110 minutes.
Â
Fresno Pacific is set to return to action on Thursday, when they take on Azusa Pacific in PacWest Conference action. The match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. from APU's Cougar Soccer Field.
Â
"Through our hard work and play, we are very much in control of our season at the midway point," Podeyn said. "It is a good place to be at this point in the season."
