SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's water polo team faced tough competition on day two of the Santa Clara Rodeo Tournament, as the Sunbirds fell to (t) #10 Brown 15-2 and (t) #10 Harvard 18-8 on Saturday.
Â
The two setbacks move FPU to 8-13 overall on the season.
Â
In the opener, the Sunbirds couldn't muster any offense against the tough and physical defense of Brown. FPU was held to a pair of goals, both coming in the third period as
Garth Verdegaal and
Jacob Fairchild found the back of the cage. Brown led 9-0 at the half and cruised to the win.
Â
In the nightcap, FPU couldn't overcome a slow start as Harvard led 13-1 at the intermission. The Sunbirds found some offense in the second half with seven goals, but it was too little too late.
Â
Kyle Madel led the way for FPU with three goals, while Fairchild added two.
David Maes,
Erik Brown and Verdegaal rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
Â
The Sunbirds continue play at the Rodeo Tournament with two games tomorrow. Game one against Bucknell is slated for a 10:40 a.m. start at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
