Sunbirds Blanked in San Diego, Sea Lions Earn 2-0 Win

SAN DIEGO – The Fresno Pacific University women's soccer team was tripped up on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Point Loma in PacWest Conference play. The Sunbirds drop to 5-5-1 on the year with the loss, including a 3-3-1 mark in league action.

Rachel Witz put the home team on the board with two minutes to play in the first half after heading in her second score of the season. The Sea Lions carried a 1-0 advantage into the locker room at half after outshooting their guests 8-2 through the first 90 minutes.

Witz launched a corner kick in the game's 71st minute, and TJ Verosik was waiting on the other end. Verosik put the ball in the back of the net to expand the PLNU lead to 2-0, and the Sea Lions sat on the lead to finish out the afternoon.

Point Loma has now delivered six consecutive shutouts dating back to September 29, while the Sunbirds have been blanked in each of their last three games.

FPU will look to get back on track on Wednesday, when they play host to Academy of Art in another key PacWest showdown. Opening whistle from Ramirez Field is slated for 7:30 p.m.
