ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Fresno Pacific University women's soccer team was tripped up on Saturday night, falling 3-2 to Dixie State in PacWest Conference play. The loss is the first for the Sunbirds in league action, and they now stand at 5-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in PacWest contests.
After a foul in the box in the 25th minute,
Alyssa Nakaguchi connected on a penalty kick to give the Sunbirds their only lead of the night. Megan Spencer and Darian McCloy each found the back of the net before the half to carry a 2-1 advantage into the intermission, but Dixie State wouldn't look back.
McCloy added her second score in the 72nd minute to push the Trailblazer lead to 3-1. Nakaguchi again snuck a penalty kick past DSU keeper Angelica Ciucci with nine minutes remaining, but the home team ensured their guests would get no closer.
FPU is set to return to action on Friday, when they travel to San Rafael to take on Dominican in another conference showdown. The match is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
