Fresno Pacific led after the first quarter but a talented Point Loma team proved to be too much to handle as the Sunbirds fell 72-60 to fall to 0-11 in PacWest play.
Taylor Caspers and
Hannah Ramirez scored 14 points apiece to lead FPU. Ramirez also totaled team highs in rebounds with eight and assists with six.
Leading 14-9 after the first quarter, FPU was then outscored 24-8 in the second. The Sunbirds trailed by as many as 14 points in the third quarter but battled back to trim the deficit to five at 49-44 early in the fourth. The Sea Lions (13-5, 7-4 PacWest) would respond however with a 10-0 run.
FPU out-rebounded the Sea Lions 44-30 but the Sunbirds committed 24 turnovers in the loss, compared to just nine turnovers by PLNU, which led to a 30-6 Sea Lion advantage in points off turnovers. Amy Ogren scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Sea Lions while Alex Brunk had 12 points, six assists and six steals.
FPU is back in action next Saturday, traveling to nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific for a 1 pm start.
