FPU falls in defensive battle

HILO, Hawaii - Fresno Pacific was held to 26.5% from the field in a 61-53 loss at Hawaii Hilo on Monday night. The Sunbirds led 20-19 at halftime in a low-scoring affair, but ran out of gas down the stretch to drop their ninth consecutive game.

Taylor Caspers led the Sunbirds with nine points while Taylor Martin and Megan Lee added eight apiece. Jasmine Shedrick and Hannah Ramirez grabbed a game-high nine rebounds apiece.

Sydney Mercer scored 25 points off the bench to lead the Vulcans (3-9, 3-4 PacWest).

The difference in the game came at the free-throw line, where the Vulcans shot 79% compared to FPU's 59%.

The Sunbirds return home to take on Point Loma this Saturday at 2:30 pm.
