HONOLULU - Fresno Pacific put together a quality second half but it wouldn't be enough to overcome a slow start as the Sunbirds fell 62-58 at Chaminade. FPU managed just six points in the first quarter and would trail 31-18 at halftime before outscoring the Silverswords 21-9 in the third quarter to draw within one.
Down the stretch, Chaminade built the lead back up to 11 with five minutes remaining but the Sunbirds would storm back with seven unanswered points. A fastbreak layup by
Abrina Salas with 2:07 left made it a 57-56 Silversword lead. FPU would be unable to draw any closer however as Chaminade picked up the win to improve to 4-8, 4-4 in PacWest play.
The Sunbirds (2-13, 0-9 PacWest) were led by 15 points and 10 rebounds from
Jasmine Shedrick. Salas finished with 12 points while
Megan Lee and
Taylor Caspers added 10 apiece off the bench. Once the team settled in, it was a quality team effort as all 10 players recorded an assist for the Sunbirds.
Shana Kawakami had 18 points to lead the Silverswords.
The Sunbirds conclude their Hawaii road trip by taking on Hawaii Hilo on Monday night.
