MASON, Ohio - Fresno Pacific will head into the 2015 NCCAA World Series with a target on its back as the defending national champion Sunbirds are the #1 overall seed in this year's tournament. The Sunbirds (34-18) begin play in Pool A on Wednesday as they look to defend last season's national championship.

Joining them in pool play is #4 Palm Beach Atlantic, #5 Central Baptist, #8 Toccoa Falls and #9 Bluefield. The other side of the bracket is highlighted by #2 Lee, the team the Sunbirds defeated in the title game last season, and #3 Oklahoma Christian, another team transitioning to NCAA Division II that FPU eliminated last year.

FPU opens on Wednesday against Toccoa Falls (Ga.). TFC, making its seventh straight appearance at the World Series, comes in with a 26-21 record and received an at-large bid after falling to Palm Beach Atlantic in the South Regional. The Eagles are led offensively by Ronnie Stewart, who hit .363 with eight homeruns during the season. Zach Breeden (8-4, 3.07 ERA) is the team's ace pitcher.

Central Baptist (Ark.), with a 30-26 record, also received an at-large bid after falling to Oklahoma Christian in its regional. The NAIA member Mustangs are led by Josh Buczek (.362 AVG, 17 SB) and Ryan Smith (5-5, 4.27 ERA).

On Thursday FPU takes on Bluefield (Va.), a team the Sunbirds defeated 8-5 in the first game of pool play during last year's World Series. The Rams were the only team to score more than one run on the Sunbirds during the tournament. This year's Rams team comes in with a 26-26 record and is led by Tyler Timmer (.333 AVG, 6 HR, 41 RBI) and pitcher Alex Haas (53 K, 49 IP).

The Sunbirds conclude pool play with a tough NCAA Division II opponent, #4 Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.). Though the Sailfish enter with a record of 25-26, they played in one of the toughest NCAA regions in the country and boast victories over multiple NCAA regional teams. PBA hits .293 as a team is led at the plate by Brian Walker (.410 AVG, 29 SB) and Chris Farrell (.335 AVG, 7 HR, 40 RBI). Josh Turner (4-6, 4.20 ERA) leads the pitching staff with 97 strikeouts in 83 innings.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semifinal matches on Friday. The winner of Pool A will play the runner-up from Pool B, while the winner of Pool B will play the runner-up from Pool A with the winners playing for the national title on Saturday.
