BELMONT, Calif. - Jenay Herring had 14 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals as FPU picked up a PacWest road win 53-46 at Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday.
The Sunbirds (4-17, 4-12 PacWest) also got a double-double from
Keairra White (10 points and 11 rebounds) and 11 points off the bench from
Taylor Caspers as the team snapped a three-game skid.
Erisha Talley and
Megan Lee added eight points apiece in the victory.
FPU used a stifling defense in the win, holding the Argos to just 29% shooting and only 17 points in the second half.
"I'm very proud of our team tonight," said head coach
Lindsey Wilson. "We came in and played with pride and intensity on both ends of the court. It's a great feeling as a coach to see their hard work pay off."
Herring opened the game with a three and the teams battled back and forth for much of the first half. The Sunbirds closed out the half on a 7-2 run to take a 31-29 lead into the break. Lee hit the go-ahead three-pointer with two minutes left in the half. In the second half, FPU locked down the Argos on defense down the stretch, allowing just nine points in the final 10 minutes. White and Herring scored four points apiece in the final three minutes to seal the win.
Maya Arellenes and Kirsten Liana scored 13 points apiece to lead the Argos (4-20, 2-15 PacWest).
FPU avenged a 75-68 loss to NDNU last month in Fresno.
The Sunbirds are back in the Bay Area to take on Holy Names on Monday night at 5:30 pm.
