Offensive Explosion Powers FPU over ART U, 98-85

SAN FRANCISCO – Fresno Pacific completed the season sweep of Academy of Art on Saturday, as the Sunbirds defeated the Urban Knights 98-85 in PacWest action at Kezar Pavilion. FPU shot 54 percent from the floor, made 12 threes and scored a season-high 98 points in the win.
 
FPU improves to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest with the win, while ART U falls to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in league action.
 
Madison Higgins and Roger Paul led all scorers with 22 points apiece for FPU. Paul made 4-of-7 shots and 12-of-15 from the free throw line, while Higgins made 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 from long range. Spencer Krannitz added 15 points, Oliver Herting had 10 and Gabe Solarin totaled nine.
 
"I think we played with a great pace tonight," said head coach Tim Kisner. "Our tempo was solid, we pushed the ball ahead and let our playmakers go to work. Our guys shared the ball really well and created open looks for each other. I'm very happy with our effort offensively tonight."
 
After a fast-paced first half, the Sunbirds used a 16-6 run with 15:22 left in the second to take control of the game. Krannitz started the run with a three, Paul highlighted it with a fast-break dunk and Higgins closed out the stretch with a three to put FPU ahead 74-63. FPU kept pace with the Urban Knights the rest of the way to earn the win. The Sunbirds led 49-47 at halftime.
 
FPU dished out 16 assists as a team, led by Suhail Mohammadi and Solarin with four each. The Sunbirds also forced 21 turnovers and converted them into 27 points.  
 
Jase Harrison led the Urban Knights with 18 points.
 
FPU is back in action on Saturday, January 2 against Life Pacific in non-conference action at home.
