Sunbirds down HPU for 5th straight win

Fresno Pacific won its fifth straight match, defeating Hawaii Pacific 3-1 to improve to 9-7 in PacWest play. The Sunbirds (9-12, 9-7 PacWest) held the Sharks (12-10, 7-7 PacWest) to an .076 attack percentage in the win.

After winning the first two sets, the Sunbirds faltered down the stretch in set three before rebounding in the final frame. FPU hit .370 in the 25-12 fourth set win while putting the Sharks' hitting percentage in the negative.

Hannah Butler set the tone for the strong defensive effort, leading the team with 29 digs. Morghan Williams had nine blocks and a match-high 14 kills while hitting .464. Carley Bock and Montana Lowe added 12 kills apiece.

Chelsea Speaks and Sarah McCann complemented the defensive effort with 15 digs each, while McCann added six blocks. Gabriela Macedo finished with 11 kills and 12 digs. Bissie DenHartog added a double-double as well with 46 assists and 14 digs.

The Sharks were led by a strong defensive performance from Amanda Moriarty, who finished tied with Butler for a match-high 29 digs.

The Sunbirds look to continue the winning streak on this current homestand, taking on second-place BYU-Hawaii on Saturday at noon.
