MERCED, Calif. - Fresno Pacific picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, hanging on for a 61-57 victory at UC Merced. The Sunbirds (1-2) led 51-41 heading into the fourth quarter and held off a furious rally by the Bobcats (0-6) in the closing minutes to secure the win.
Megan Lee led the way for FPU with 13 points while
Taylor Caspers added 12.
Jasmine Shedrick pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Shedrick and
Hannah Ramirez added seven points apiece.
"We came out and played very energized," said head coach
Lindsey Wilson. "I was proud of the way we were able to bounce back after three tough road games."
The Sunbirds limited the Bobcats to 37% shooting on the night. FPU shot 92% from the free-throw line (12-of-13) in the win.
Shelby Howard had a game-high 25 points to lead UCM.
The Sunbirds play their home opener this Tuesday at 5 pm, taking on Cal State Monterey Bay.
