Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Streak hits seven as FPU renews rivalry with CUI

Fresno Pacific's winning streak reached seven games on Saturday as the Sunbirds swept past visiting Concordia 25-17, 26-24, 25-20. The teams entered the day with identical 10-7 PacWest records but the Sunbirds (11-12, 11-7 PacWest) made quick work of their former GSAC rivals, who joined FPU in the PacWest this season.

The Eagles (14-13, 10-8 PacWest) had no answer for Morghan Williams, who turned in another dominant performance finishing with 15 kills and just one error for a .667 attack percentage. Montana Lowe added nine kills as hit .368 as FPU out-hit the Eagles .261 to .137 on the day.

Hannah Butler led four Sunbirds in double figure digs, finishing with 13. Sarah McCann added 11, Gabriela Macedo had 10 and Bissie DenHartog finished with a double-double of 12 digs and 29 assists. McCann added a team-high four blocks in the win.

The turning point came as the Eagles led throughout the set and FPU found itself trailing 22-17 late. The Sunbirds stormed back to score four straight points but the Eagles rebounded and appeared to take control with a 24-22 lead. However a kill by Williams and a service ace by DenHartog evened up the score. After a CUI error brought it to set-point, Williams and McCann teamed up on a block for the winner.

Hannah Andrews had 14 kills to lead the Eagles in the loss.

It was FPU's first win over the Eagles since 2010 as the Sunbirds came into the match having lost three consecutive meetings with CUI.

FPU is back in action this Thursday at 5 pm as they host Academy of Art on senior night for both Butler and Williams. The Sunbirds are 5-0 on this current homestand.
