OAKLAND, Calif. - Fresno Pacific dropped the first set at Holy Names 28-26 before quickly recovering and cruising to a 3-1 victory over the Hawks, evening their PacWest record at 3-3. The Sunbirds (3-8, 3-3 PacWest) took control of the match in set two, hitting .500 while holding the Hawks to .030 hitting in a 25-14 win. By the final set the Sunbird defense had taken full control, limiting the Hawks to a negative .114 percentage and just five kills.
"We settled down and did a really nice job controlling the match," said head coach
Matt Terra. "Montana and Morghan were unstoppable in the middle and Carley and Gabi did a great job backing them up on the outsides."
Gabriela Macedo led the Sunbirds with 14 kills (.364) and 17 digs.
Carley Bock delivered another strong performance, turning in a season-high 13 kills and hitting .333 with four blocks.
Morghan Williams hit a sizzling .500 with 12 kills.
Hannah Butler added 13 digs while
Sarah McCann finished with 11.
Bissie DenHartog dished out 46 assists and
Montana Lowe led the Sunbirds with six blocks to go with nine kills. Overall FPU had nine blocks compared to HNU's two. FPU hit .281 as a team while the Hawks hit .093.
Lihau Perreira had 18 kills to lead the Hawks, who fell deeper into last place in the conference at 0-6, 2-13 overall.
It was FPU's first road win of the season.
The Sunbirds continue the road trip tomorrow, taking on Dominican at 3 pm. FPU defeated the Penguins 3-1 in Fresno on September 19 and will be looking for the season sweep.
