Win streak snapped at BYUH

Laie, Hawaii - FPU's road trip to the islands got off to a rocky start on Thursday night, as the Sunbirds saw their three-match win streak snapped in straight sets at the hands of first-place BYU Hawaii 25-21, 25-20, 25-14. The Sunbirds (4-9, 4-4 PacWest) were limited to a .132 attack percentage on the night and battled in the first two sets before the Seasiders (9-8, 7-2 PacWest) ran away with it in the third.

Montana Lowe and Morghan Williams had seven kills apiece and combined for just two errors on the night to lead a Sunbird attack that otherwise limited throughout the match. Hannah Butler turned in a quality defensive performance with 20 digs. Bissie DenHartog dished out 16 assists to go with 10 digs.

Sinamoni Tonga had 16 kills and hit .444 to lead BYUH. The Seasiders hit .254 on the night.

FPU found themselves in a 22-12 hole in set one but used a 9-2 run to get within striking distance before the Seasiders closed it out. The Sunbirds rode that momentum to an early lead in set two and led for much of the set, up until the midway point at 14-13. BYUH would close out the set on a 12-6 run however and would cruise to victory in set three as the Sunbirds hit for a negative percentage in the final frame.

The Sunbirds continue the road trip on Friday night as they take on Chaminade in Honolulu.
