LAIE, Hawaii - Fresno Pacific's road trip to Hawaii got off to a rocky start as BYU Hawaii handed the Sunbirds an 88-70 loss on Tuesday night. A 48-18 rebounding edge provided a major advantage for BYUH as FPU fell to 2-8, 2-3 in PacWest play.
The Sunbirds trailed 27-25 with four minutes remaining in the first half but struggled mightily over the next four minutes as the Seasiders closed the half on an 18-4 run to take a 45-29 lead into the locker room. FPU never got closer than 15 in the second half, cutting the deficit to 70-55 with 6:48 remaining.
Jenay Herring scored 16, all in the second half, to lead the Sunbirds.
Taylor Caspers added 10 points,
Megan Lee finished with nine and
Dakota McLarnan added eight.
Bry Tutupu-Leopoldo had a game-high 20 points to lead the Seasiders (6-5, 3-2 PacWest). Celeste Claw added 16 points.
FPU continues the road trip on Thursday, taking on Chaminade.
