Fresno Pacific caught some tough breaks down the stretch, falling 60-58 to Hawaii Hilo for the Sunbirds' seventh straight loss.
Jenay Herring scored a game-high 23 points for the Sunbirds (2-13, 2-8 PacWest), who led 34-27 at halftime and held a lead for much of the second half.
Keairra White added 14 points and
Dakota McLarnan had 11 for FPU.
Jasmine Shedrick and White each pulled down eight rebounds. Shedrick had five blocks.
The Sunbirds had a chance to win it on the final possession after two missed Vulcan free-throws but Herring's pass to White under the hoop went off her fingertips and out of bounds with two-tenths of a second left.
Kirstie Williams had 13 points and Hayley Reynolds added 12 for the Vulcans (7-8, 6-5 PacWest).
FPU out-shot UHH 40% to 33% and was nearly perfect (13-of-14) from the line. The Sunbirds also out-rebounded the Vulcans 44-30, but had 22 turnovers in the loss.
The Sunbirds host last-place Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
