Box Score Cal Baptist def. Fresno Pacific 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 33-31)RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Fresno Pacific gave Cal Baptist all it could handle in a 33-31 marathon third set, but it was too little too late as the Sunbirds fell 3-0 to CBU in front of a capacity crowd in Riverside. Despite the loss the team felt like it turned a corner in that final set, and is ready to get back on the court tomorrow.
"That was the best volleyball I've seen us play all season in that third set," said head coach
Kelly Winter. "If we can shore up a couple things and play like that consistently, we are going to win a lot of matches. I'm very encouraged by what I saw tonight."
The Sunbirds hit .306 with 25 kills as a team in the final set. The team faced elimination seven times in the set yet continued to battle back.
"Cal Baptist has a very offensive and powerful team that we matched point for point," said Winter. "We came up a little bit short but I'm pleased with the fight in our team and I know that we got better tonight. We put ourselves in a hole in the first two sets and need to do a better job of starting right out of the gate."
Kathleen Anderson had 11 kills on the night while
Gabriela Macedo and
Rupia Inck each added 10.
Hannah Butler finished with 22 digs.
Sarah McCann dished out 36 assists and 12 digs for the double-double. Macedo had 13 digs to complete a double-double as well.
