FPU wins sixth straight conference game 87-71 over Argonauts

Box Score

For the first time since 2002 the Sunbirds have won their sixth-straight conference game taking down Notre Dame de Namur, for the second time in six days, 87-71 in Fresno.

The Sunbirds (9-11, 9-5 PacWest) were torched in the first half allowing 42 points by the halftime, the most points allowed in the first half by FPU this season. The Argonauts (4-15, 3-10 PacWest) shot 58.6-percent from the floor in the half including a 60-percent shooting effort from behind the three-point line.

Out of the break Fresno Pacific put its stamp on the game taking what was a three-point halftime deficit and quickly turning it into a seven-point lead with a 12-2 run to start the half.

"I think the second half we started playing FPU basketball. We were moving the ball on offense we ran in transition," said head coach Lindsey Wilson. "We were doing all the little things we need to do in the second half."

Patrice Saindon was on fire pouring in 21 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor while hitting 10-of-11 free throws. The senior also had six rebounds and five assists filling up the box score in the absence of Charde Stevens. FPU finished with five in double digits for the first time since December 7 against Dixie State. Jenay Herring and Keairra White finished with 12, and Jazmine Simpson and freshman Brooke Vidmar each chipped in 10.

As a team the Sunbirds shot 50-percent from the floor for the third time this season matching efforts put out against Hawaii Pacific (1/23) and Cal State East Bay (11/23). FPU's 87 points was the highest offensive output in regulation this season. The Sunbirds scored 88 in an overtime win over Holy Names on January 8.

NDNU got a big double-double from Jennifer Jasper who scored 26 and pulled down 10 rebounds. Maya Arellanes and Danielle Lasirona also finished in double figures with 15 points and 10 points.

The Sunbirds will play rival Point Loma on Saturday in a game with major postseason implications for both teams. The game will start at 2:30 p.m.
