Banuelos stays hot, but Warriors even up series with FPU

TURLOCK, Calif. - Fresno Pacific was unable to hold leads in both games of Monday's doubleheader as Cal State Stanislaus (2-2) took two games to split the four-game series with the Sunbirds (3-3). Joshua Banuelos had five hits on the day, finishing a sizzling 11-for-16 (.688) in the four-game series.

John Koretoff gave the Sunbirds a 6-5 lead with a three-RBI double in the seventh inning but the Warriors came back with one in the eighth and one in the ninth to win it. Bryan Bucher had three hits for FPU while Koretoff, Banuelos and Michael Tittle each had two hits.

In game two FPU jumped out to a 4-0 lead but a five-run third inning propelled the Warriors to victory. Banuelos went 3-for-4 in the loss. Kaohu Gaspar went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and Baron Bower added two hits as well.

FPU got excellent bullpen outings from Tanner Irwin and Anthony Cantu in the two games, but Sunbird starters Josh Medeles and James Lagorio were unable to go deep into the games.

The Sunbirds host San Francisco State on Friday at 6 pm, the first of a three-game series.
