Sunbirds turn in strong 2nd half at D1 CSU Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Jenay Herring scored 15 points and Keairra White added 10 as Fresno Pacific fell 82-60 in an exhibition at Division I CSU Bakersfield. After being outscored 51-20 in the first half, the Sunbirds looked in control in the second, shooting 71% from the field and outscoring the Roadrunners 40-31 after halftime. The team closed out the game on a 12-2 run.

"We did a lot of great things in the second half against a very tough opponent," said head coach Lindsey Wilson. "We played great team defense and moved the ball on the offensive end. When we can put two halves together, we can do something special."

Erisha Talley grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for FPU, as the team out-rebounded the Roadrunners 40-38. FPU shot 47% from the field, 50% from long-range and 77% from the free-throw line, all marks that were higher than CSUB. FPU will look to cut down on its 27 turnovers moving forward. Dakota McLarnan had nine points, connecting on three three-pointers, and Taylor Caspers finished with eight points and six rebounds.

Dajy Vines had 27 points for the Roadrunners (3-1), who counted it as a regular season game.

The Sunbirds return home to begin PacWest play next week, hosting Holy Names on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
