FRESNO, Calif. - Trevon Clayton's double-double of 18 points and a career-high 20 rebounds powered Fresno Pacific over visiting Bristol 86-76 Wednesday night at the FPU Events Center in non-conference action. The senior also dished out a team-high five assists and finished 7-of-7 from the field in the win.
FPU improves to 3-2 overall with the win, while BU falls to 1-5.
"We didn't start the game the way we wanted to, especially on the offensive end by not sharing the basketball," said head coach
Shane Rinner. "Bristol is a good basketball team and they made it difficult on us tonight."
With the score tied at 64 apiece with 6:23 remaining in the game, the Sunbirds used a 21-7 run to put away the Bears. A
Bobby Barnes trey put FPU up for good at the 4:30 mark to kick-start the run for the Sunbirds.
"After we called a timeout, we ran a set, executed well and hit the three to put us up. We created a turnover and hit another three to give us a cushion," said Rinner. "The guys executed down the stretch, persevered and hung together which I was proud of."
Barnes finished with a team-high 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting, while
Jeff Amazan contributed 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Madison Higgins finished with 17 points and
Roger Paul was the final Sunbird in double-figures with 10.
The Sunbirds shot 55 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Bristol 41-24 in the win.
The Bears were led by Brandon Chavers' game-high 26 points.
FPU travels down south to take on Bethesda at 3 p.m. on Friday.
