NORWALK, Calif. – Fresno Pacific used a balanced scoring attack to down Bethesda 69-57 on the road Friday in non-conference action. The Sunbirds finished the afternoon with five players in double-figures and shot 50 percent from the floor in the win.
FPU improves to 4-2 overall, while Bethesda falls to 1-8 with the loss.
Trevon Clayton recorded his second straight double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds to lead FPU. The senior also dished out a team-high five assists.
Madison Higgins scored a co-game high 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while
Bobby Barnes finished with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Gabe Solarin and
Jeff Amazan were the final two players in double-figures with 11 points apiece. Solarin nailed three treys and Amazan also contributed six rebounds, three assists and four steals in the win.
The Sunbirds trailed 35-26 at the half and outscored Bethesda 43-22 in the second period to earn the win. FPU scored 16 points off 11 turnovers in the second half to make the difference. With the Sunbirds up 43-42 at the 13:55 mark, FPU used an 18-7 run to earn its largest lead of the night 61-49 with 5:11 remaining.
FPU outrebounded the Flames 34-30 on the afternoon and forced 16 total turnovers.
"This was the worst half of the year followed by our best offensive half," said head coach
Shane Rinner. "The guys had to find a way after a long drive and an early tip off. We will need to play much better next week in our conference opener to get the result we want. I am pleased with the continued develop our group."
The Sunbirds jump into PacWest conference play on Thursday, Dec. 4 at home against Holy Names. Tipoff is schedule for 7 p.m. at the FPU Events Center.Â
