Fresno Pacific was held to 29% shooting on the night, falling 67-48 to Cal State Stanislaus in its home opener on Thursday. Charde Stevens had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Sunbirds (0-3), while Jenay Herring added 10 points.
Four players scored in double figures for the Warriors (1-0), led by Jasmine Washington and Alyssa Valentine with 11 points apiece. The Warriors bench would give CSUS a boost, outscoring the Sunbird bench 30-12.
The Sunbirds jumped out to a 6-2 lead and led 13-11 in the first half before the Warriors went on a 19-6 run. CSUS would lead at the break 30-21 and would then use a 13-0 run during the second half to open up a 46-23 lead. FPU had 23 turnovers in the loss."We're not where we need to be yet," said head coach
Lindsey Wilson. "These non-conference games are learning opportunities for us that show us what we need to be working on. We have to get to a point where we trust each other and with a lot of newcomers that can take time. We're going to need everyone to buy in as we continue to figure out our identity as a team."
The Sunbirds travel to Cal State East Bay this Saturday for a 7 pm game.
