BELMONT, Calif. - FPU suffered its first PacWest loss since October 13 of last season, falling 4-3 to a tough NDNU team on its home field. The Sunbirds (6-2, 4-1 PacWest) found themselves in a 3-0 hole just 26 minutes into the match and would be playing catch-up throughout the day.
Guillermo Talancon scored for the Sunbirds just before halftime and Alvaro Nogales brought the team within one, converting a PK in the 71st minute that made the score 3-2. NDNU responded with a goal just four minutes later however for a 4-2 lead. Jorge Chedraui scored in the 84th minute, his ninth goal of the season, to make it 4-3 but the Sunbirds would be unable to tie it in the closing minutes."We played poorly the first 30 minutes," said head coach
Jaime Ramirez. "The second half was all ours, but we failed to convert on several pin-point opportunities. Giving up the fourth after it was 2-3 put us in a deeper hole. But we kept at it and learned that we can score at any time during the game.
"We took it in the chin the first half and responded too late. The artificial surface and heat presented a difficult situation for us in the first half.
Andrew Luis was outstanding in goal.
Martin Kams played a stellar match and
Guillermo Talancon was the man of the match."
Dallas Whitlow and
Dylan Rusconi recorded assists for the Sunbirds.
The Sunbirds are back in action at home next Thursday, hosting Academy of Art at 5 pm.
