Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SAN FRANCISCO - Fresno Pacific completed a four-game sweep of conference foe Academy of Art on Saturday, winning by scores of 5-0 and 9-4 to improve to 20-10 on the season (11-5 PacWest) and finish the week undefeated (6-0).

Brett Bishop led the way, going 5-for-8 with a homerun in each of the games and a total of five RBI. The win puts the Sunbirds back near the top of the pack in the PacWest standings as the team heads into next week's showdown with first-place Grand Canyon (19-1 PacWest).

Wilson Ashford set the tone in game one, mixing pitches well and leaving the Urban Knight hitters guessing. Ashford scattered four hits in seven scoreless innings to earn the win, improving to 5-1 on the season. James Lagorio and Tanner Irwin threw scoreless innings of relief to preserve the shutout.

The Sunbirds struck first in the first inning as leadoff hitter Baron Bower singled and stole two bases before being driven in by a Bishop single. Bishop, who added a solo homer in the fifth and a two-RBI single in the eighth, finished 3-for-4 with four RBI in the first game.

Bishop picked up right where he left off in game two, blasting a homer to left in the first inning to give FPU a 1-0 lead. The Sunbirds led 3-1 before breaking the game open with a six-run fifth inning. Once again it was Bower starting the rally with a single and a stolen base, coming around to score after an RBI hit by Steven Lozier.

Bishop and Robert Chambas followed with singles to score one more and another run came in on a wild pitch. Bobby Mendoza and Zak Taylor later drew bases loaded walks and the Sunbirds batted around to get back to Bower, who delivered an RBI single for the sixth run of the inning to make the score 9-1.

Steven Moon and Bishop each went 2-for-4 in the second game, while Chambas finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Mitchell Scott (2-4) earned the win on the mound, throwing 4 2/3 innings and giving up three earned runs. Bryce Daily and Kellen Hackett worked scoreless innings of relief.

The Urban Knights fell to 2-26, 1-18 in PacWest play.

The Sunbirds host first-place Grand Canyon next week for a four-game series in Fresno beginning Thursday, April 4. GCU (26-5, 19-1 PacWest) has won 17 straight games.
