Goals from
Amanda Hudec,
Kelly Nikkel and
Ashley Tallon propelled Fresno Pacific to a 3-0 win over last-place Holy Names. The Sunbirds (8-7-1, 6-4-1 PacWest) posted their eighth shutout of the season and scored more than one goal in back-to-back games for the first time this year.
"We're really pleased with today's result," said head coach
Erik Farfan. "To be able to travel and get a solid win like this was positive for our team to continue on the right track. It was another great defensive effort from our back three of
Caressa Archie,
Alyssa Nakaguchi and
Clara Buettner, and from
Sarah King, and another improved performance offensively."
Hudec got the scoring going in the 12th minute, kicking in a cross from
Amber Rodriguez for her first goal of the year. Rodriguez leads the team with three assists.
Nikkel then found the net for the second consecutive match, finishing a pass from
Jessica Castillo in the 26th minute and continuing to provide the Sunbirds with a much-needed spark on the offensive end.
Tallon added an insurance goal in the 81st minute on a great feed from
Sarah Reed, who recorded an assist for the second straight match.
HNU dropped to 4-12-1, 0-10-1 in the PacWest with the loss.
The Sunbirds conclude their season this Saturday at Academy of Art in San Francisco.
