Fresno Pacific ends Troyer Tournament on high note

Men's Water Polo finished the Gary Troyer Tournament with a 1-1 day that included an 18-5 win over Cal Tech in their second match of the day.

The Sunbirds dropped their first match to Division I opponent Fordham 6-5.

"We went down in the second quarter and just couldn't catch back up," said head coach Bryan Suhovy. "Our defense was solid in the second half but we had a hard time converting on offense. We are going to have to fine tune some things in order to be prepared for some big games coming up."

Fordham killed off two penalties in the final two minutes to keep hold of their slim one goal lead.

Daniel Seymour led the way for FPU with two goals. Gelnn Lyon, Zlatko Vlasic and Ian Roos also scored in the match for the Sunbirds.

Despite the loss goalkeeper Jake Finney had a stellar match with 13 saves for Fresno Pacific to keep FPU in game late.

After 10 goals between the two sides in the first half, the second half was all about defense as neither team scored in the third quarter. Seymour put one in the back of the net in the fourth to the Sunbirds a chance.

The second match was the third for FPU against Cal Tech with much of the same result. The Sunbirds dominated the contest with 18 goals in the win.

"The guys had a tough weekend but finished strong against Cal Tech," said Suhovy.

Fresno Pacific will be back at home this week for a showdown with #20 Concordia at Sunnyside Aquatic Center on October 12.
