Fresno Pacific surrendered an early goal and never really recovered, falling 4-1 at CSU Stanislaus in Turlock on Friday night.

Bruno Pessoa scored the lone goal for the Sunbirds in the 70th minute off a pass from Paul Islas. It was the second straight game the Brazilian forward has been a major factor for the Sunbirds.

The Warriors, playing in front of a large home-opener crowd, converted on their first corner kick opporunity when TJ Grewal headed in a pass from Juan Alvarez just seven minutes in. Then on their third shot attempt, Manny Avila gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.

FPU's first-half defensive woes continued as CSUS's Kyle Cadigan capitalized on an FPU turnover in the box right in front of FPU goalie Steven Waite for an easy score.

The Warriors added one more in the 58th minute on a shot by Daniel Kuczynksi, before Pessoa would give the Sunbirds some life 12 minutes later.

A very physical match, the two teams racked up 43 total fouls and seven yellow cards. Each team finished with 11 shots. Pessoa led FPU with two shots on goal.

Waite, who started some games in goal for CSU Stanislaus as a freshman before transferring to FPU, played 2/3 of the game in goal before giving way to freshman Andre Costa.

The Sunbirds will look to get back on track as they return home this Thursday to host Corban College at 7 pm.
