Jessica Torrecillas scored 17 points to go with eight rebounds, but the Sunbirds were unable to stay within striking distance against an athletic Concordia team, falling 66-56 to the Eagles in Irvine.

The Sunbirds cut the lead to three late in the first half, after trailing by 12, but the Eagles would score the last six points of the half and not look back from there. CUI would build up a 17-point lead in the second half, before the Sunbirds cut into it for the final 10-point deficit.

FPU shot 82 percent from the free throw line and 37 percent from the field in the loss. Kelly Thompson had 10 points and eight rebounds and Michele Rebozzi also scored 10.

Tyler Howard led the Eagles with 17 points. Cheyenne Wallace added 11 to go with five blocks and Patrice Hunter scored 10.

Concordia improved to 14-8, 9-7 GSAC with the win. FPU falls to 8-17, 1-14 GSAC.

The Sunbirds return home to face Hope International (11-14, 3-12 GSAC) this Saturday at 2:30 pm. FPU lost to the Royals earlier this season in Fullerton, but will be looking to defend their home court on Saturday.
