Water polo begins CWPA Invite with tough matchup

Box Score

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Fresno Pacific began its final tournament of the weekend with a 17-6 loss to #13 Concordia at the CWPA National Invitational. It was the Sunbirds' fourth loss to Concordia this season, and by the largest margin.

FPU (10-24) had previously played the Eagles to two seven-point games as well as an 11-8 loss in Fresno a month ago. Mateja Maksimovic scored three times to lead the Sunbirds, but FPU would fall behind early and never recover.

The Eagles led 6-1 after the first quarter and 9-2 at halftime, putting the game out of reach by the third quarter. Stephen Chafi, Sascha Ludwig and Nick Fadden also scored goals for the Sunbirds. Jake Finney made seven saves in goal.

FPU continues the tournament tomorrow, taking on host Cal Baptist, ranked #17, at 9 am. The Sunbirds then face Vanguard at 1:45 in the season finale.
