Sunbirds give away one game but bounce back in second game

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Fresno Pacific (20-8, 12-8 GSAC) could have had a sweep in their doubleheader against Westmont (11-21, 6-14 GSAC) despite their eighth inning in game-one.  The Sunbirds fell 10-4 giving up 7 runs in the eighth inning, but came back from the hard loss to dominate the second game 15-3.

The two games were the same story, but on different sides of scoreboard.  The Sunbirds led 4-3 going into the bottom of the eighth inning.  Unfortunately, the Sunbirds hit four batters, walked one and gave up a grand slam all in the same inning to put the Sunbirds down by the final score 10-4.

The second game had the Sunbirds trailing 3-2 after three innings, but the Sunbirds' offense came alive to outscore the Eagles 13-0 in the final four innings.

Tyler Pryor led the Sunbirds on the day with five hits and six RBIs in both games combined.  Pryor was four-for-five with four RBIs including a three-run homerun in the fourth inning.

Michael Rivera also had four RBIs in game-two, followed by Matt Souza and Dwight Nixon with two RBIs apiece.

Kelyn Schellenberg was on the verge of a win before the bullpen allowed seven runs where Kyle Lovero received the loss pitching 0.2 innings and allowing two runs.

Sean Cunningham got the win in game-two pitching five innings allowing four hits and three runs.  David Hawes finished the game pitching two innings allowing no hits.

The Sunbirds will return home next week to take on Azusa Pacific on Wednesday and Thursday, April 7-8.  The Sunbirds' first game will be on Wednesday, April 7 at 6 p.m.
