FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (13-1, 5-1 GSAC) continued the work they did in Irvine as they finish the series sweep with victories in both games of the doubleheader against Concordia (8-9, 1-7 GSAC). The Sunbirds had a homerun in game-one and two grand slams in game-two to help them win 9-5 and 12-4, respectively.
Jeff Taylor led the Sunbirds hitting three-for-seven with six RBIs on the day, including a grand slam in the third inning to put the Sunbirds up 6-3.
Case Rigby followed with his own grand slam in the fourth inning to extend the Sunbirds' lead to 10-3. Rigby's grand slam was his fifth homerun of the season. Both Rigby and Taylor led the Sunbirds with four RBIs apiece in game-two.
Alec Mehrten also had a homerun in game-one and ended up with two RBIs for the Sunbirds. Mehrten, Taylor and
Dwight Nixon led the Sunbirds with two RBIs apiece in game-one.
Trevor Borsak (1-0) and
Matt Mazzoni (2-0) each got the wins in game-one and game-two, respectively. In game-one, after the Eagles scored five runs in the first three innings, Borsak came in and pitched 5.1 innings and only allowed one hit without any runs scored. Mazzoni pitched five innings allowing 10 hits and 4 runs in game-two.
Kyle Lovero and
Michael Jimenez came in to an inning apiece and shut down Concordia in game-two. Both pitchers only allowed one hit apiece and no runs between the two of them.
The Sunbirds will play again next week on Wednesday, March 10 against The Master's College in Santa Clarita. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 10 a.m.
