SAN DIEGO, Calif. - No. 9 Fresno Pacific (18-6, 10-6 GSAC) only managed five hits in each of their losses to No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene (20-7-1, 12-5 GSAC) in their first of two doubleheaders. Point Loma defeated the Fresno Pacific 6-1 and 9-4 to pull ahead of the Sunbirds in the GSAC standings.
The Sunbirds could not get their bats going and could not find a way to stop Point Loma from swinging away. The Sunbirds were out-hit 5-13 and 5-14 respectively in their two games.
Kelyn Schellenberg received his first loss of the season pitching 7.1 innings while allowing 11 hits and 4 runs.
David Hawes got the second loss splitting the game with
Kyle Lovero four innings apiece. Hawes allowed five runs while Lovero allowed four.
Patrick Bariteau had three RBIs in the second game from a homerun in the ninth inning, but was already too late as the Sunbirds trailed 9-1.
Dane McLaughlin went two-for-four in game-one, but no other Sunbird had more than one hit in either game.
Fresno Pacific will attempt to rebound as Point Loma travels to Fresno on Saturday, March 27 for another doubleheader. The Sunbirds can still even up the series if they take both home games. The first game in Fresno will begin at 12 noon.
