RIVERSIDE, Calif. - No. 9 Fresno Pacific (18-4, 10-4 GSAC) came out even with California Baptist (24-7, 13-3 GSAC) in their four-game series after splitting at home and now splitting in RIverside. The Sunbirds fell 1-4 in game-one, but came back to to win game-two of the doubleheader 6-2.
The Sunbirds were really hot and cold on the day. In the first game the Sunbirds were only 6-for-32 with one run, but then came alive hitting 10-for-31 with 6 runs in the second game.
Dwight Nixon was 0-for-4 in game-one, but was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs in game-two, leading the Sunbirds in RBIs for the game and for the doubleheader.
Case Rigby was 5-for-7 on the day going 3-for-3 with one walk and one RBI in the second game.
Matt Souza was 3-for-7 on the day scoring the Sunbirds' only run in game-one with a solo homerun.
Sean Cunningham pitched 7.1 innings in game-one getting the loss for the Sunbirds, while
Matt Mazzoni received the win in relief in game-two pitching 3.1 innings and giving up four hits and two runs with two strikeouts.
The Sunbirds will take on No. 2 Point Loma Nazarene on Wednesday, March 24. Fresno Pacific and Point Loma currently are fighting out the third and fourth spots in the conference, and the Sunbirds will go into Wednesday's matchup down one loss to Point Loma in conference records. The doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m.
