Sunbirds surrender early goal, fall at Westmont

Fresno Pacific came into Tuesday's conference match with Westmont hoping to build on the momentum from Saturday's 3-0 upset win over #11 Cal Baptist. However, the Sunbirds surrendered a goal just a minute and 22 seconds into the game, then couldn't find the net despite numerous chances in the 2-0 loss.

The Warriors (6-4-2, 3-2 GSAC) got the early goal on a very deep shot from the left side by Jenny Martinez and would tack on another in the 88th minute by Haley Yurtin for the 2-0 final.

The Sunbirds (4-7-1, 2-3 GSAC) had plenty of chances, taking 12 shots and getting nine shots on goal. Jessica Pereschica in particular was able to get create some opportunities, but all five of her shots on goal were saved by Warrior keeper Roxanne Love.

FPU goalie Catherine Michaelis made eight saves, as the Warriors got their fair share of chances as well. Westmont finished with 18 shots, 10 on goal.

The Sunbirds entered the game in a fourth-place tie with Westmont and fall into the bottom half of the standings with the loss. The team will have a chance to get back on the winning track this Saturday as they travel south to take on San Diego Christian (4-5-3, 0-3-2 GSAC) at noon.
