FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (3-0) opened the season season with three wins in its home tournament. The Sunbirds defeated three club teams in the one day tournament: 18-9 over Fresno State, 18-5 over Santa Cruz and 11-6 over UC Davis.
Nearly every Sunbird scored a goal in the one-day tournament.
Glenn Lyon led the day with 12 goals including five in the win over Fresno State.
Nick Fadden followed with three goals against Fresno State, and five goals against Santa Cruz.
Fadden finished the day with nine goals in the three games.
Lyon and
Tim Kahn led with three goals apiece in the Sunbirds' final game over UC Davis. By the end of the day, 15 different Sunbirds scored at least one goal apiece.
In the goalie cage,
Riley Warner returned from last year as the Sunbirds' main goalie with 21 saves. Warner's high point was his nine saves in the first half against Santa Cruz. Warner had help from
Ray Eggert who played the second half in the first two games bringing in nine saves.
Warner and Eggert combined for 14 saves against Santa Cruz.
Coach Brian Suhovy complemented his team: “We played well. It was a great opening weekend playing at home and getting so many guys involved. We found some areas we can improve on before next weekend."
The Sunbirds will head to Thousand Oaks for the Cal Lutheran Tournament on Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 19. .
